Community Noticeboard

This is a Community Noticeboard with information relevant to community groups and local residents.  It is updated regularly, so keep checking back to see what's happening.

The regular events listed below are organised by community and not-for-profit organisations across the Parish, arranged alphabetically by the village name.  If you would like your events to be included, please email Angela with full details.

You are advised to check with the organisers before attending any of the sessions, since arrangements may have changed since the information was provided to the Council.

Farnley Tyas:

Farnley Tyas Community Association Meetings Meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7.15 pm. Meetings held May - October are at Farnley Tyas Bowling Club;Meetings held November - April are at the Golden Cock. Everyone is welcome.

Flockton:

Flockton Parent & Toddler Group: meet at Flockton C of E School on Barnsley Road on Tuesdays 1.30-3.15pm.

Grange Moor:

Grange Moor Community Association Meetings Meets at 7.30 pm at The Grange on the first Tuesday of every month.

Coffee and Kids in Grange Moor - Play Session for Under 5-s with Coffee/Juice and Cake for Mums and Dads. Held every Wednesday (term-time only)at St Bartholomews Church Hall 1 - 3pm. £1 per family.

Wacky Wednesdays at the National Coal Mining Museum.  Each week during term time from 10:15-11:00 NCMM combine storytelling, singing and craft activities -  the perfect opportunity to drop in and have fun with your under 5. Doors open early at 09:30, so come and enjoy a coffee,juice and cake before the session starts! Plus, why not make a day of it and stay for lunch, explore the Nature Trail, discover soft play area and visit the ponies. To plan your visits to Wacky Wednesdays, here are the dates for the whole year! 6 Jan – 3 Feb, 24 Feb – 16 March, 20 April – 25 May, 8 June – 20 July.

Highburton:

Kirki Burty's Craft GroupNew Members welcome. Sessions on Mondays at Highburton Village Hall from 1.30 - 3.30.  Drop in or call Pauline for more details: 01484 860766.  Crafts include paper crafts,quilting, rag rug, crochet and knitting to name but a few.

Kirkburton:

Craft Group: every Monday afternoon at the Hub in Kirkburton: 1.30 - 3.30 £3 entry inc refreshments. Painting & drawing, sewing & dress making,card design and other creative things to try.

Readers Group: First Tuesday of each month at Kirkburton Library: 6pm - 8pm

Local History Group at Kirkburton Library : every Friday : 10am to 12 noon

Knit & Natter Group at Kirkburton Library : every Friday : 2pm to 4pm
Come along with your knitting or stich work for an enjoyable 2 hours of chatting and meeting new friends. All welcome.

Kirkburton Uniformed Group:

Kirkburton Uniformed Group is the collective name for the Scouting & Guiding units, which meet at the KUG Headquarters on Hallas Road in Kirkburton.  There are currently about 100 young people involved in Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Brownies & Guides.  They take part in a wide range of activities run entirely by volunteer leaders.  Below are the normal meeting nights for the groups during term times:

Monday    –  Cubs (for 8 to 10½ yr olds) meet 6.30 to 7.30pm

Monday    –  Guides (for 10 to 14 yr olds) meet  7.45 to 9.00pm

Tuesday   –  Beavers (6 to 8 yr olds) meet 6.00 to 7.00pm

Tuesday   –  Scouts (for 10½ to 14 yr olds) meet  7.30 to 9.00pm

Wednesday –   Guides Senior Section (14 to 25 yr olds) meet  7.30 to 9.00pm


Thursday - Brownies (for 7 to 10 yr olds) meet 6.15 to 7.30pm

Kirkheaton:

Embroiderers' Guild : Second Monday of the month from 10 am to 4.30 pm at Kirkheaton Parish Centre, Church Lane Kirkheaton.  Everyone welcome Huddersfield Branch Competition 2019 will be judged at the December meeting.  This year's theme for both original work and kits is "At the Water's Edge"

Light Refreshments in the Library: Every Thursday & Friday.  Open to all from 2.30-4.30pm.

The Health Walk in Kirkheaton: Every Thursday afternoon 2-3pm led by Kirklees authorised walks leaders. Leaves the Parish Centre car park at 2pm for a stroll around the area. Level of walk chosen to suit the participants. No commitment, just turn up and stay for refreshments afterwards at the Parish Centre: T@2 tea and cakes, open to all from 2-4pm.

Lepton:

Lepton Community Link: Made up of residents of the village, who work on local issues. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of alternate months in Lepton Methodist Church at 7pm. Meeting dates are posted on the village noticeboard, in the Library and the Green Hut Fisheries.

Lepton Health Walks: From Thursday 1st May 2014,every Thursday at 2pm meeting in St John's car park.  Refreshments will be available in the church afterwards.  The walk will last about an hour and will be suitable for all levels of fitness.  For more information email:lepkirk1@gmail.com or just turn up as there is no need to book.

Rowley Hill Parent & Toddler Group: meet at the Portacabin in Lepton CE School on Station Road on Tuesdays and Wednesdays 1.30-3pm.

Lepton Toddlers: meet at Lepton Methodist Church on Fridays 9.30-11.30 and in Lepton Scout Hut Tuesdays 9.15-11.30. 

Bluebell Garden Club: meet the 1st Tuesday of the month (except January) at St John's Church Hall, Green Balk Lane, Lepton, HD8 0ED from 7.30pm - 9.30pm.  All are welcome whether you garden a little, a lot, or not at all.  Please see the Club’s website for more details.

Shelley:

Shelley Community Association meetings - second Monday of each month at 7.30pm in the Mercer Room in Shelley Village Hall.  All Shelley residents welcome.

Carpet Bowls: Mondays 2-4pm & Wednesdays 10-12 at Shelley Methodist Hall

Bingo / Dancing: Mondays 7 - 9pm at Shelley Methodist Hall

Shelley Toddlers meet at the Methodist Hall on Mondays from 9.15-11.15 am in term-time. They are a friendly group for babies, toddlers and their grown-ups. Shelley Uniformed Groups meet at the Methodist Hall on Tuesday & Friday evenings (Term-Time). They include Brownies, Beaver Scouts (age 6-8), Cub Scouts (age 8-10.5), Scouts (age 10.5-14), Guides, and Rainbows. Shelley Line Dancing meet in Shelley Village Hall at 7pm on Fridays and Modern Sequence Dancing is held at 2pm on Wednesdays.

Shelley Over 60s Club meet in Shelley Village Hall at 2pm on Thursdays.

Shelley Football Club train Tuesdays and Thursdays in July (7pm - 9pm), Wednesdays in August (7pm – 9pm) at Storthes Hall.


Saturdays monthly at 7pm at ShelleyMethodist Hall: Whist with Local History and Gardening Talks, alternating monthly on Wednesdays.

Shepley:

Shepley Group meets every Sunday from 10am to Noon at the Memorial Woods off Firth Street Recreation Ground. As well as planting fruit trees around the village, the Group also helps to maintain the Trans-Pennine Trail and is also working on a long-term project of regenerating the woodland around the memorial. Shepley and District Naturalists Society walks on the 1st Saturday of each month at 10am. Meet in the Shepley Methodist Church Car Park.  

Stocksmoor:

Stocksmoor Toddler Group: meet at Stocksmoor Village Hall on Station Road on Thursday mornings (term-time only) 9.45-11.30. 

Thurstonland: 

Thurstonland Village Association Meeting - the first Monday of each month at St Thomas' Church from 7.30 pm - 9.30 pm All villagers welcome to come and discuss matters of interest to everyone living in this area.
