How to become a Candidate in the Parish Council Elections May 2023
Candidates are currently being invited to stand for the next 4-year term of office at the Parish Council. The process is as follows:
You must be nominated to stand as a candidate and obtain a Candidate Nomination Pack from Kirklees Electoral Services, Kirkgate Buildings, Byram Street, Huddersfield HD1 1BY. You can stand either as an independent candidate or represent one of the political parties. To do the latter, you will need to obtain permission from the relevant party.
Eligibility
To be eligible you need to meet certain requirements: You must be at least 18 years old, a British, qualifying Commonwealth, Irish or European Union citizen on the date you are nominated and on polling day. You must also meet one or more of 4 qualifications regarding residence / property ownership / place of work in the Parish or within 4.8 km of the boundary. There are also certain things, which would disqualify you from standing. Full details are contained in the Nomination Pack.
Opening Hours for Return of Nomination Papers:
Monday to Friday, from Friday 24 March to Tuesday 4 April, between 8.30 am and 4.00 pm on an appointment basis. Book an appointment now by emailing: electoral.registration@kirklees.gov.uk.
The legal deadline for returning Nomination Papers is 4pm on 4 April.
