Calendar of Community Events

All community groups and 'not for profit' organisations throughout the Parish are welcome to submit information regarding their forthcoming events, and we will be pleased to include them on the list below free of charge.  Please allow 7 days before the event, if possible.  We will also display any information notices. However, we cannot display notices of a commercial or political nature.

Short course on Resuscitation and how to use the Defibrilator : 20 July at 10.30 am at Shelley Village Hall
New volunteeers are needed to join the Community First Responders scheme in Shelley.  The Responders attend local medical emergencies and provide care and reassurance in the time before an ambulance arrives.  They make a real difference to people's lives in a matter of minutes - you could too!  The session involves both theory and practice and lasts around 90 mins.  For more details or to book a please contact Martin Smith, Tel: 0771 1206247 or Email:

Kirkheaton Family History Film Night : "The Kirkheaton Collection" by Maurice Broadbent on 26 July at 7.30 pm at Kirkheaton Community Centre
This is a fundraising event for Kirkwood Hospice. All funds raised from the entry and refreshments will be donated. It will feature Kirkheaton and the Coronation:

The group meets every Thursday from 6pm at Kirkheaton Library and is available to offer help with all Family History issues.

Village Cricket Match - Challenge for Vicar's Vase at Thurstonland Cricket Club : 27 July from 6.30 pm.

Kirkburton Library - Children's Summer Reading Challenge : Cartoon Capers Storywalk : 7 August at 2.30pm
There's a prize for the best character fancy dress. It's going to be fab - whatever the weather.  Free event.

Shepley Bowling Club Open Day : 12 August 10am to 4pm. Open to everyone from 8 years + Free coaching sessions. Free Refreshments

Kirkburton Library - Children's Activity : Pieces of History : 21 August from 10.30 am to 12 noon
Is it a grenade? Is it a cannon ball? What about the brick? Enjoy guessing the objects, dressing up in authentic uniforms and hearing the fascinating stories behind them. Suitable for families and children of 7 years and above. Free event.

Kirkburton Library - Children's Activity : Mischief Lab : 22 August from 2 to 4 pm
Experiments designed to cause mischief.  Free event.

Clifton Hand Bell Ringers will perform on 15 September from 2-3pm in Shelley Emmanuel Church as part of the Heritage Day celebrations
The Church will be open from 10 am with lots of activities for all ages. Everyone welcome.
