Calendar of Community Events

All community groups and 'not for profit' organisations throughout the Parish are welcome to submit information regarding their forthcoming events, and we will be pleased to include them on the list below free of charge.  We will also display any information notices. However, we cannot display notices of a commercial or political nature.

Are you interested in forming a new branch of the Women's Institute in Highburton? An initial meeting to be held at Burton Village Hall : 18 October : 7 for 7.30 pm Come along and find out more about getting involved. The WI is a great way to have fun, learn new skills and raise money for charity all at the same time. For more details about the WI, see their website:

Big Party Night : Shelley Village Hall : 20 October Come and celebrate 150 years of Shelley Parish Church. Entertainment and meal. Full details from Barbara on 01484 608569.

Personal Life of a Local WWI Soldier (Thomas Kingston private letters) : 25 October at 7.30 pm at Kirkheaton Community Centre Presentation by Colin Beaver of the Kirkheaton Local History Group. Entrance £2.50 inc light refreshments.

Family Bonfire and Fireworks : Kirkheaton Parish Centre, Church Lane, Kirkheaton :
3 November from 6.30 pm Tickets: Adults £4, Children £2, includes drink and cake. Tickets available from the Parish Office, Tel: 01484 531449.

Silence of the Guns : A Concert to Commemorate the Signing of World War I Armistice :
8 November 7-8pm at All Hallows Church, Kirkburton
Featuring HD8 Voices Female Voices Choir, Poetry Readings, Local History. Tickets £5 each, available from the Post Office in Kirkburton.

The Eve of Peace with Gledholt Male Voice Choir. A Concert of Remembrance : 10 November at 7pm (doors open at 6.30pm) at Kirkheaton Parish Church
Tickets £7, available from the Parish Office Tel: 01484 531449 and choir members. Any profits after costs, will be donated to charity.
